Devlog Prototype Version 2.0 Release


Prototype Version 2.0 Release Notes:

 New Features:

  • New Energy Bar 
    • (we gave the player an energy bar which is your overall player health + the amount of boost the player has available)
  • Sharp Turning 
    • (Now the player can use the top right and left bumpers to rotate the ship 90 degrees to the left and right)
  • Added Collision to the First Level 
    • (there were spots where players could pass through, all of those open areas have been patched)
  • Boost UI Feedback
    •  (We have added a Boost Pickup slot that informs the player when they pick up a boost powerup they know that they have one available to use)
  • Added a Win/Lose State 
    • (Players now will know whether or not they passed the level)
  • Added a Restart Feature 
    • (When the player either crashes, is out of energy, or does not reach the end of the level in time, the player can restart the level over again)
  • Added a Timer Feature 
    • (This is one of our game's core aspects; the timer informs the player how much time to reach the end of the first level since our game is a "Time Trial" Race!)
  • Energy Rings 
    • (restores Energy to the player's Energy Bar)

Improvements:

  • New Controls Layout 
    • (based on feedback from the last round of playtesting players we simplified the player controls)
  • Allowing the player to pass through pickups instead of having to shoot them 
  • Improved Bullet Color
    •  (players said that the bullets seemed too dark so we made them a bright neon green)
  • Improved Accuracy of the Player Reticle 
    • (The Reticle was not as accurate in Version 1.0 Release)
  • Added Collision to the First Level 
    • (there were spots where players could pass through, all of those open areas have been patched)
  •  Adjusted Track Layout 
    • (In Version 1.0 Release, the track was a circle that went in an endless loop, the First Level now has different directions and obstacles that the player has to navigate through)
  • Gradual Deceleration
    •  (In Verison 1.0 Release, when the player lets go of the gas button, the player would come to an abrupt stop, now they come to a gradual stop)

Assets:

  • First Track Level 
    • (we have removed the small "Demo Track" from Version 1.0 Release and replaced it with the First Level
  • Main Player Ship 
    • (we have removed the "placeholder" ship and replaced it with the new final model)
  • Boost Model 
    • (In Version 1.0 Release, the boost pickups were just holographic spheres, now within the spheres is the Boost Pickup model to inform the player better what the sphere does)
  • Controls Screen 
    • (Before the player starts, a screen shows all the basic controls for the player so they can jump right in and play!)

Road Map for Prototype Version 3.0 Release:

  • Add Engine Trails to ship engines
  • Sound Effects
  • Score System (Best Score based on objects destroyed, boost left over, and overall time)
  • Music
  • Explosion when the player crashes or runs out of Energy
  • Barrel Roll Feature
