Devlog Prototype Version 3.5 Release


Prototype Version 3.5 Release Notes:

 New Features:

  • Added Pause Menu
    • (we have added a pause menu to allow the player to easily restart the level, or exit to the main menu)
  • Animation to Main Menu
    • (we have added some animated asteroids to the Main Menu screen to give a little more life to the background image)
  • Main Thruster Trail vs Boost Thruster Trail
    • (now there is a distinct difference between the normal thrusters trail and the boost thrusters trail. Now when the player uses the boost pickup the thruster trails will turn green when the player is in "boost mode" and will change back to normal thruster trails once the boost runs out)
  • Animations on the Controller Screen
    • (we have updated the controller play style options to make it easier for the player to understand with arrow animations on the Dpad)

Improvements:

  • Player Movement Changes
    • (The player now moves at a constant speed when the player is not holding down on the acceleration button, but the player can go faster when pushing the acceleration button)
  • Updated End Menu
    • (When you win, the options to restart or exit to the main menu have had a graphical overhaul making it much easier for the player to know what to do at the end)
  • Adjusted Time to Complete Levels
    • (feedback and play testing have made us aware of how difficult it is to complete the levels before time runs out, so we have added an additional 30 seconds to complete each level)
  • Adjusted UI Scaling
    • (we have added proper UI scaling so that the game properly places all UI elements where they need to be)
  • Shortened Distance at the end of "Hard Mode"
    • (feedback has informed us that the distance that you had to fly through to reach the end of the "Hard" level was too long so we have decreased the distance by 2/3 making it much easier to reach the finish line in time)
  • Alien Ship Explodes on Player Collision
    • (Now if the player collides with an Alien ship, the ship will explode and not remain anymore)
  • Making Player Invulnerable on Respawn after Death
    • (Based on feedback we received, there was an issue where the player would take damage even while they crashed which would result in a game over, so now the player respawns with a few seconds of invincibility)

Assets:

  • Updated UI Backgrounds
    • (we have updated some of the backgrounds for the different menus)
